With the Canon EFS 10-22 You Will Never Strip Your Focus Rings Again

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Buy a Print: Shadow Cast | Scott Haefner PhotographyI have had quite a bit of trouble with my impatience and caused some damage to my previous lenses because of that, which is why I am so happy that the Canon EFS 10-22 solves that problem for me. The focus rings on my lenses used to wear very quickly, as I often forget to switch from autofocus to manual focus to get my images sharp. When I am caught up in the moment and need to take that all-important shot, I don’t want to pause halfway to first switch to the manual settings when the lens is struggling to autofocus. This often happens in dimly lit conditions, where I struggle to see the switch in any ways. In my frustration I often try to focus manually by turning the focus ring while it is still in autofocus mode, which wears the focus ring and can even strip it. Luckily Canon has put an end to all of that with the EFS 10-22mm, by allowing a so-called “one shot AF mode” during which I can focus manually without having to flip a switch.

The Need for a Layman Review of Nikon 20mm 2.8

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

If you are a beginner in the world of photography and you are looking about details and performance measures for the Nikon 20mm 2.8 then you may become overwhelmed by all the information out there. You may not be able to make sense of most of that information, since they will be written by professional photographers who might take for granted that you know all about terms such as ghosting, sharpness, chromatic aberrations, and pin cushion distortions. In a practical world however most beginners who buy a digital SLR camera may not even know what focal length and aperture mean. Therefore there is a pressing need for lens reviews which are addressed to laymen. These reviews should ideally explain each parameter before evaluating the lens on that parameter. The review should also include tips and tricks on how best one can use the lens and where it is most suitable.

I Almost Bought a Tokina 16-50mm Lens

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

I spoke to someone who bought the Tokina 16-50mm lens in the camera shop the other day and he told me that he was there to return it. This was quite a surprise as I was planning to buy one for myself, but thought to ask his advice first when I saw him with the lens in his hands. According to him, he had only been using it for a few days but the optical quality is not what he had been expecting. This is a pity as third party lens manufacturers like Tokina have been making a name for themselves as good alternatives to the bigger and more expensive brands. It only takes one mistake to tarnish that reputation however and from what I heard this lens might just be the setback that Tokina did not need. While I have not completely given up on the idea of buying the lens I will definitely be testing it out for myself first.

Are you excited about your photo shoot with your pet, but have you ever thought of how you are going to keep them sit still for the portrait. Anyways it’s not that easy. Always make sure their tummy is full before you start a photo shoot with them, else don’t even think of it. They are the ones who always wish to play around, and if you try to make them sit still for long, they will get irritated. Canvas Prints Really Make a Photo Look Great

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

I just got the delivery of the beautiful canvas prints that I had ordered a little while back. I really thought that I knew what to expect when I got them but I was blown away by the quality of this product. I could not believe the way that the colors in the photo that I had taken really came out in this canvas print. I had taken a picture of my youngest son at his first birthday party and I thought that the picture turned out perfectly and I wanted to get it made into something a bit more special than a traditional print. I was able to find this site that makes your prints into canvases and thought that it was the perfect way to preserve this memory. I was easily able to place my order and anxiously waited for it to arrive. Now that it is here, I am blown away by how gorgeous it is.

The Night of the Burning Bell

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

I was contracted to do a range of weddings in the next couple of months. It was getting a bit boring doing the same thing over and over again and I started looking around for other opportunities. As the Saturday evening approached I was regretting the fact that I signed up for this wedding more and more. It was the same old traditional wedding with the same old traditional people. Was I in for a surprise. They were getting married at seven the Saturday evening which is late for a normal wedding, but I am glad it was. They most worst, but also amazing thing happened and out of all the Charleston wedding photographers I was there to capture it. The bells of the church somehow caught alight and the whole tower was up in flames. It was a bit of damage for the church, but it made some pretty good photos that the local newspaper absolutely loved.

Panasonic Lumix FT3 – a Great Beginner’s Camera

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

The Panasonic Lumix FT3 in an incredible camera – arguably the best waterproof camera on the market. It is made by a well respected manufacturer, is extremely well built and is highly affordable.

There are a great range of features that can be found on the Panasonic Lumix FT3. These include a fully automatic option, that will take care of setting your aperture, shutter speed and ISO. This makes it very easy to take impressive underwater images, even if you are new to photography.

We most definitely recommend that all beginners start by using the auto option. Whilst underwater photography offers some fantastic opportunities to capture highly unique images, the reality is that these opportunities aren’t going to present themselves every day. As a result, you need to be using a camera that is reliable and will deliver results.

It is true that experimentation with manual settings can be very productive, but it is best to leave this until your experience level has increased.

Tamron 17-50 VC Review Autofocus and Optical Performance

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

In this quick Tamron 17-50 VC Review, I will be discussing the autofocus performance and the optical performance on this lens. Being a professional grade lens, one surely wonders how good this lens can be in terms of both the optical and autofocus performance.

I will be giving my take on the above two issues. First of all, the autofocus performance is very fast, silent and accurate. Even better, it is very consistent on all focal length and at any aperture. If you are shooting normally, you will love the autofocus feature on this lens, especially if you are shooting sports.

In terms of optical performance, this lens really does not disappoint. It is very sharp from corners to corners. I took a lot of pictures of landscape, portraiture, etc. And all of them have turned out sharp. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this lens.
